Child Safeguarding Policy

1. Introduction

 

The WomanUp Foundation is a non-governmental organization founded with the mission to promote the rights, dignity, and well-being of women, mothers, and their families, as well as to contribute to the development of more just, inclusive, and supportive public policies.

As part of its activities, the Foundation organizes trainings, research, public events, advocacy, and informational campaigns, which may involve direct or indirect contact with children. This policy affirms the organization’s commitment to protecting the rights and best interests of every child.

2. Purpose of the Policy

 

The purpose of this policy is to:

  • Provide a clear and consistent framework for child protection;

  • Prevent all forms of violence, abuse, exploitation, or neglect;

  • Ensure that all activities of the WomanUp Foundation are conducted in a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for children.

3. Scope

 

This policy applies to:

  • All employees and members of governing bodies;

  • Volunteers, external experts, trainers, and researchers;

  • Partners and subcontractors
    who have contact with children within activities, projects, campaigns, or communications organized or coordinated by the WomanUp Foundation.

It covers both direct work with children and indirect engagement (media materials, research, advocacy, public events).

4. Principles

 

Work with children is based on the following principles:

  • The best interests of the child are paramount in all decisions and actions;

  • All children have equal rights and protection, without discrimination;

  • The child is a rights-holder and has the right to participate and express opinions;

  • Violence in any form is unacceptable;

  • Work with children requires high ethical standards, professionalism, and personal responsibility.

5. Roles and Responsibilities

 

Management of the WomanUp Foundation:

  • Approves and updates the policy;

  • Provides training and support for its implementation;

  • Ensures an appropriate response to any reports of risk or violations.

Designated Child Protection Officer (may also hold another role within the organization):

  • Receives and coordinates reports;

  • Maintains contact with competent authorities;

  • Keeps documentation while ensuring confidentiality.

Employees, volunteers, and partners:

  • Strictly adhere to this policy;

  • Recognize and report potential risks;

  • Participate in trainings and supervision as needed.

6. Procedures for Reported or Suspected Violation

 

  • Any report of risk to a child must be immediately reported to the designated officer;

  • If necessary, notify the Child Protection Department, police, or other competent authorities;

  • All reports are taken seriously, including anonymous ones;

  • Retaliation against the reporter is strictly prohibited;

  • Immediate protective action is taken in cases of imminent risk.

7. Training and Awareness
  • The WomanUp Foundation:

  • Provides introductory child protection training;

  • Organizes regular trainings and internal discussions;

  • Makes information on children’s rights and reporting mechanisms accessible;

  • Encourages awareness among children and their families.

8. Media and Communications

 

  • Use of images, stories, or data about children requires informed consent;

  • Sensationalism, stigmatization, or victimization is prohibited;

  • Communications promote positive and empowering representations of children;

  • Expert consultation on children’s rights is sought when necessary.
