New Policies for Future Mothers

"New Policies for Expectant Mothers" is a project that builds on the previous work of our team as an informal collective aimed at promoting humane treatment, informed choice, and access to quality care in maternity wards in Bulgaria.

Main Activities

Research

Data collection through interviews and surveys with pregnant and giving birth women from across the country to outline the real needs, challenges and good practices in maternity care.

Analysis

Needs analysis and conducting "action learning sets" with medical specialists aimed at creating better understanding and exchange of experiences between patients and healthcare workers.

Training

Trainings on the rights of expectant mothers, which aim to raise women's awareness of their rights during pregnancy and childbirth and to support them in asserting them.

Meetings

Bilateral meetings between women and medical teams that aim to build trust, dialogue, and shared learning from real-life situations and experiences.

Proposals

Development of a plan-proposal for improving conditions in maternity wards, based on the collected data and feedback from project participants.

Goals and Expected Results

The project aims to contribute to sustainable policies and practices that guarantee respect, safety and access to information for every woman choosing to give birth in Bulgaria. Through systematic data collection and dialogue between all stakeholders, “New Policies for Expectant Mothers” seeks to outline specific recommendations for changes in the health system and the attitude towards women in maternity care.
