Climate Change and Women’s Health

This training program, part of our Women for a Green Future project, is designed for anyone who wants to understand the impact of climate change on women’s health and develop skills for sustainable activism.

Training and Mentoring Support

The initiative includes training sessions and individual mentoring consultations, providing knowledge, practical tools, and a network of like-minded individuals for developing feminist climate projects.

The program addresses both the scientific and social aspects of the climate crisis, covering topics such as:

  • Climate change – global and Bulgarian dimensions

  • The link between climate change and women’s health

  • Air pollution and reproductive health

  • Social consequences and risks for new life

  • Ecofeminist leadership and advocacy

  • Practical exercise: reducing the ecological footprint in feminist work

  • Working with politicians and advocating for gender-sensitive policies

  • Climate change and the cosmetics industry

Lecturer: Zornitsa Spasova – Senior Assistant at the National Center for Public Health and Analysis (NCPHA) at the Ministry of Health, climatologist, and expert in climate change and human health. She is the winner of the European Meteorological Society Journalism Award (2023) and serves as ambassador of the European Climate Pact for Bulgaria.

Discussion and Strategic Planning Meetings

In addition to training, the project includes discussion, advocacy, and strategic planning meetings aimed at developing proposals for legislative changes and policies that recognize the role of women in national climate strategy. These meetings bring together participants, experts, activists, and institutional representatives to exchange knowledge, experience, and ideas for more equitable climate solutions.

Goals and Vision

Women for Green Justice aims to foster a sustainable environment for the development of women’s leadership in climate justice by combining training, mentoring, and advocacy. The project affirms that gender equality and climate justice are deeply interconnected and that women must play a central role in building green, socially responsible, and fair policies.

The training is part of the WomanUp Foundation’s project “Women for Green Justice: Advancing Gender Equality through Climate Action”, funded by Women Engage for a Common Future (WECF) – Funding Fairer Futures.
